Love Poems

Want to express your love for someone, whether it's for a special occaision or purely for the moment, what better way than a poem tailored personally for you to say exactly what you feel

Magic in the air

There was a magic in the air
A time most infinitely rare:
Treasure it in the memory
Treasure it for you and me.
It's ever present in my mind
The restaurant where in Prague we dined,
Under the open starlight sky,
The river flowing gently by.

There is a magic in the air,
A shimmer shining everywhere:
Moonbeams all across the scene
Bathe us in a silver sheen.
The Charles Bridge lights are all aglow,
And on the river dark below
A thousand images dance and quiver
In shards of light across the river.

But the magic in the air,
Went far beyond what lit us there:
Beyond what everyone could see
A light that shone there just for me…
The magic in your face, your hair
Illuminated everywhere,
And stars that dazzled from your eyes
Dulled those pinpricks in the sky.

Gemma, all along I always knew
The magic in the air was you.
You were, as life about me swirled,
My still point of the turning world.
And must such happiness- must it be
Consigned to just a memory?
The moments that we cherished then,
Can they ever come again?

The future's an eternity
There's surely room for you and me:
We'll start with just a modest place-
A Dachshund won't take much space…
Oh Gemma! Say you will be mine
And then your light will always shine-
Always, ever, everywhere
There will be magic in the air.

My Christmas Babe

It is the deadest time of year
A "nothing time which none hold dear.
With this there's few who'd disagree
Excepting one -that one is me.

Early March- late February
It's wonderful- Oh can't you see
The miracle about to be?
It's when he will come home to me!

Who cares if winter's cold still bites?
My heart I know will still ignite
And flame and glow and blaze and burn
The moment that he will return.

Who cares for silly Christmas lights?
All "glitter" -shining "surface bright"?
His light more deeply it will burn
When he to all of us returns.

Who cares for Christmas spending sprees?
Those presents don't forever please;
My heart will give him so much more
The moment he returns from war.

The Babe at Christmas was divine
But unlike Eddie wasn't mine.
And though I know I shouldn't say
It is to my babe that I pray…….

He had no star to light the sky
No oxen standing meekly by
No shepherds ,stable, no three kings-
None of these usual Christmas things.

Instead where he is coming from
Is where you'll find the gun and bomb.
It's odd that Saviours often come
From Eastern parts of Christendom.

One Saviour came to save us all-
All creatures great, all creatures small;
The other comes more privately,
And he is coming just for me.

His is the coming I await,
To him my prayers I dedicate:
Come home safely back to me
From all my fears, set me free.

There's only one thing that I yearn
And that's your quick and safe return:
Come home and these drab months, my dear
Will be the best time of the year!

The only Manly superman

Dear Dad-I think you ought to know
At last I've found my Romeo:
I'll tell you Dad -at least I'll try-
I'll tell you something of the guy

Over six months we have spent
In happiness and deep content-
When in so many different ways
Little rituals enriched our days.

To Monday's football he will go
Then home to dinner cooked by Jo.
The start of every weekend day
Is at Ash's Table Take-Away:

"2 coffees please, and raisin toast"
(That's what we both enjoy the most)
We go and find the tree and sit
On that grassy bit right under it-

The time, the place is just the same
An honoured ritual it became.
We come to Thursday night and so
It's Trivia at "The Ivanhoe"

His general knowledge staggers all
He has the power of quick recall
Of all his knowledge stored within
Which makes him always ALWAYS win!

"What does he do?" I hear you ask,
"What is his routine daily task?"
I must confess that in the week
He's a bit of a tedious I.T. geek.

But we all know that Clark Kent passes
For an office clerk in suit and glasses.
It's all part of the master plan
'Cause underneath he's Superman!

And so Mattheus after work
--No longer a computer clerk-
A new life bursting forth began
Behold - another Superman!

He is transformed by his guitar
Into a music superstar:
His stage charisma wins all hearts
He knocks 'em out and tops the charts!

Then clips his boots into his skis
And wins Olympic Gold with ease-
The Downhill, Slaloms-Giant and Small
This superskier wins them all!

A lust for life, all forms of sport
Skiing, surfing- any sort-
But Mattheus also has you'll find
A really superhuman mind:.

On intellectual themes pursuant,
In countless languages so fluent,
On matters abstract and refined
He has the most accomplished mind.

And his all embracing brain
Can work on matters more mundane:
Though D.I.Y. drives us berserk
He likes to find out how things work-

All things his mind investigates,
He studies, fixes and creates:
Each challenge offered, he takes up
From programming to Jo's make-up!

(With multi-talents he's awash,
Thank God the bugger can't play squash!)

Can anyone, anywhere fail to be
Impressed by such a fine C.V.?
So, Dad- he looks like just the man
To be escorting your Joanne.

But one more point I think you'll need…..
Mattheus……well….he is a Swede.
"A Swede...Not English!...Oh my God!
I must insist - Give up the sod!"

Expected words but every one
I'm sure intended just for fun.
Believe me Dad, that we relate
In ways you will appreciate:

When he's unshaven, rough and smelly,
He's my very own Ned Kelly.
I'm his Yo -or P.P.
A Princess or a pea that's me!

Or sometimes after Mazda-"Maz"
Which makes me rather like his Jazz!
Oh yes he's good at cars as well,
A real mechanical Brunel.

So Dad I'm sure you will approve
And one more thing, I'm going to move.
On Jan. the eighth we shall become
A partnership- a pair - as one.

I think it all was meant to be
It's written in the stars you see:
It's all to do with when we're born,
He's Cancer, I am Capricorn…….

That means on Friendship, ten we score,
And nine when we're up to something more.
And so the catchword's "nine and ten"
(I'm talking silly talk again)

We'll get on fine if we go steady
We've been on holiday already-
We've skied the slopes and soaked the sun,
I really think he is the one.

Our minds are very much in tune
And you must meet him very soon-
The only one for me-Joanne--
The only Manly Superman!
